چکیده

The eddy-covariance (EC) method is often used to measure the exchange of chemical compounds such as CO2. Transport is calculated using the covariance of two high frequency measurements. There are problems with the EC method, particularly under light wind conditions. Surface-layer EC measurements represent relatively small flux footprints (~1Km). It is difficult to assess the representativeness of single-tower EC fluxes. In this paper, we compare NEE (net ecosystematmosphere exchange) of CO2 from two nearby sites in Wisconsin using the EC method. Different transport scales of CO2 are analyzed, and we propose and test a new parameterization of counter-gradient transport in the atmospheric surface layer over a forest canopy. The parameterization describes the observations very well. Finally, we discuss problems that occur under light wind and low turbulence conditions during the morning transition.

Investigation of the Effect of Nanoparticles Mean Diameter on Turbulent Mixed Convection of a Nanofluid in a Horizontal Curved tube Using a Two Phase Approach

Turbulent mixed convection of a nanofluid (water/Al2O3, Φ=.02) has been studied numerically. Two-phase mixture model has been used to investigate the effects of nanoparticles mean diameter on the flow parameters. Nanoparticles distribution at the tube cross section shows that the particles are uniformly dispersed. The non-uniformity of the particles distribution occurs in the case of large nano...

Turbulent Mixed Convection of a Nanofluid in a Horizontal Circular Tube with Non-Uniform Wall Heat Flux Using a Two-Phase Approach

In this paper, Turbulent mixed convective heat transfer of water and Al2O3 nanofluid has been numerically studied in a horizontal tube under non-uniform heat flux on the upper wall and insulation in the lower wall using mixture model. For the discretization of governing equations, the second-order upstream difference scheme and finite volume method were used. The coupling of pressure and veloci...

Numerical Predictions of Turbulent Mixed Convection Heat Transfer to Supercritical Fluids Using Various Low Reynolds Number k-e Turbulence Models

There are a number of systems in which supercritical cryogenic fluids are used as coolants or propellant fluids. In some modern military aircraft, the fuel is pressurized above its critical point and used as a coolant to remove heat from the aircraft engine. Accurate prediction of heat transfer coefficients to turbulent flows of supercritical fluids is essential in design of such systems. One o...

An assessment of the influence of land cover uncertainties on the simulation of global climate in the early Holocene

Six and 21 kyear BP represent the extreme states of climate since the last glacial maximum. The early Holocene, in contrast, was a time of transition, experiencing rapidly melting continental ice sheets, rising sea-level, and increasing summer insolation. Key features of the climate, illustrated by an NCAR CCM3 general circulation model experiment representing 11 kyr BP, include enhanced contin...

Rapid Increase in Log Populations in Drought-Stressed Mixed-Conifer and Ponderosa Pine Forests in Northern Arizona

Down logs provide important ecosystem services in forests and affect surface fuel loads and fire behavior. Amounts and kinds of logs are influenced by factors such as forest type, disturbance regime, forest management, and climate. To quantify potential short-term changes in log populations during a recent globalclimate-change type drought, we sampled logs in mixed-conifer and ponderosa pine (P...
